Christmas isn’t about “things”…
Yes, we all agree “Christmas isn’t about things”.
But things are important at Christmas.
The things we pull out of bins and unwrap from tissue for just such a brief while.
The things that we remember from Christmases past.
The things that remind us of other trees we sat beside.
The things that mark the passing of years.
These are just things, but important ’cause they hold love, memories, traditions & bring good cheer…just like Christmas itself.
So I want to share with you some of my Christmas things tucked in here & there around my house.
They are not what makes Christmas CHRISTMAS, of course, but what makes Christmas our own.
Often times it is just a small thing, that can bring back the most vivid memories. Like these ornaments from my Grandma Sally.
As soon as they come out of the box, I am back in her living room.
The tree in the corner, faux & flocked, circled with a thick cottony skirt sprinkled with glitter (remember those?)
Then there are the big red ornaments I bought for our first house in Virginia. The ornaments were almost as big as the tree that year! This year they grace the family room mantel.
My collection of prize pinecones (no cinnamon bagged ones for me). Hand collected over years in Southampton’s woods, some”flocked” with leftover paint.
The reindeer that preside over our living room every December have been with us a long time. See one up the the corner?
Our family tree goes in the living room every year. From each branch hangs special things.
In the entry, the silver tree I bought on my first trip to the Rose bowl here in California.
Let’s head into the dining room. Here I like to go a bit more glamorous. Extra bling with my burlap!
Can you see the tomato cage Christmas trees in the background?
I made these using porcelain ornaments from my mom’s shop. We just loved them & bought lots. She no longer has a shop, but I have several ornaments to remember the experience.
Aren’t they pretty snowflakes? Just right on the wispy, dainty trees.
Really can’t remember the number of times I have sprayed painted this bowl. Isn’t that neat how the chandy reflection looks like stars in the balls!
Heading back into the living room…
On the tree are the REALLY special things that I most enjoy taking out each year. The things made by the two people that make Christmas special in this house.
It would not be our Christmas without these things, and all the other works of art & heart, hanging on the tree.
I would love to see your special Christmas things. Can you tell me about one thing that you love taking out each year?
Hope you enjoyed my Christmas Home Tour!
