Are there certain things you can’t, or would really prefer not to, live without in your kitchen?
Tell me one…
Then we’ll tell you a bunch of ours.
Today on the podcast Anita, Yvonne and I are talking about ‘kitchen MUST haves’.
Decorating Tips and Tricks Episode #17 – Kitchen MUST Haves
Our list is varied and probably includes a few things you wouldn’t imagine or may not know even were an option.
Here’s a little preview of what’s in our kitchens…
Listen to find out the rest of what makes our kitchens our favorite rooms.
Kitchen Essentials
My first kitchen essential is really more an essential not to have.
I cannot stand electrical outlets on the backsplash. Learn how I avoided having them and managed to still have loads of plugs. Click here.
We all love decorative items, like table lamps and art in a kitchen to make it feel more like a gathering place, than a utilitarian room. It is the hub of most homes, so why not treat it like any other room?
We do…
See what I mean?
Cookbooks are a logical item in a kitchen but don’t just pile them up in a cabinet or tossed on a shelf. Use them for recipes and for decor.
These are a few of my favorites:
A vintage volume of Mastering the Art of French Cooking by none other than Julia Child.
Barefoot Contesssa Family Style by Ina Garten
The Foothills Cuisine of Blackberry Farm by Sam Beall & Marah Stets
While we are on the subject of food, my kitchen, well more so the meals I prepare in my kitchen, feel incomplete without a sprinkling of my favorite sea salt.
It is called Maldon.
You can read all about Maldon Sea Salt here and pick up a box here.
Hope you have a chance to listen to Episode 17 of Decorating Tips and Tricks to get more details on our favorite kitchen must haves.

Love that stove!!!…and the no outlets on the backsplash is on my “wish list” for the new house!
Shirley I am so excited for you as you embark on this new adventure!!! No outlets !!!
I completely gutted my kitchen and started from scratch. Every time I walk into that room, I fall in love all over again. I have an appliance garage so all my daily small appliances are hidden. I’ve decided to keep the counters bare, excepting my Keurig and a pitcher of flowers on the island. The bank of windows look out on my garden and that is all the decor I need.
I do love looking at a pretty decorated kitchen even though it’s not for me, anymore.
Over to your podcast…..
Joanna – that is exactly the way I feel about my kitchen!! So glad you love yours too! It sounds perfectly wonderful. Hope you enjoy the podcast today!
Thanks for sharing…Love the pod cast!
You do !! That is SO wonderful to hear Dianne. We just went over 100,000… downloads this morning!! Thank you for listening and moreover telling me you enjoy it!
Where did you place the outlet moulding in the area of your countertops?
hi Patty – the plug molds went up underneath the cabinets flush against the wall/backsplash. Tucked in behind the under counter lights.
I can`t live without my 3 cast iron skillets. I use them almost every day. I have had them 45 years and they only get better with age, kinda like me. Ha.
Love your comment Lynn and I sure do agree!!
I think it’s great that you don’t have outlets on your backsplash. It’s not something I ever thought about, even though I don’t have any on mine. They located behind the fridge and below the pennsisula counter. What I can’t live without is my coffee maker, fresh ground coffee every morning is a must for me. Did I mention how much I love your kitchen ☺️
Rose – thank you so very much. I do love my kitchen too! No outlets ( at least no visible ) for us!
