So I was at a mall shopping for a Homecoming dress for Ava. A pretty outdoor mall with fountains and shops filled with shiny new things. But my heart didn’t go pitter patter, not once. I didn’t get that swirly, excited feeling like I do when I approach a place filled with old stuff. I loved finding a dress with Ava, but I was thinking of why old stuff is so appealing to me and new stuff ~ not so much. So why old over new for me & so many of us?
The Patina of Time
This is what I think… It’s the patina, the mysterious layer that covers old things. It’s that old things have a story to tell. It’s that they are items of quality that have withstood the test of time. It’s their uniqueness, no two items will age the exact same way. Turning from stuff to ourselves… Think of your laugh lines as your patina, recall the stories you have to tell, (& those you’ll keep to yourself!) celebrate withstanding the test of time …and revel in your uniqueness. ** Kelly **
