What does Autumn smell like to you? A pile of leaves…pumpkin pie…?
What ever it is, that scent triggers memories & emotions associated with this time of year.
It is said that that the sense of smell evokes the strongest memories and emotions.
More so than sight or even touch. Have you heard this too?
I think it might be true because…
I have a make up case that was my grandmother’s. In it is a small vial of the perfume she wore, “Evening in Paris”. When I snap open the case & the scent streams out, I am instantly transported, not to Paris, but to her house. Where I was so small and she was so glamorous to me.
Other scents evoke more general feelings like a season, cleanliness, warmth or freshness.
Specific or general scent is powerful!
What is your favorite scent of this season?
The scent or better said, the combination of scents, I enjoy in my house this time of year are: orange peel, cinnamon & cloves.
I simply put a few peels, two sticks of cinnamon & tablespoon of cloves in a small pot. Cover with water & simmer. Within minutes my house is filled with a clean, warm, aromatic scent.
I am simmering a pot right now. Can you smell it? ( …that is a blogging challenge – to get you to smell what I writing about! ) I hope you can conjure up a whiff & that you will give my combo a try.
We have gathered 11 bloggers to share their ‘Scents of the Season’ with you. Nose your way around these wonderful blogs and get a ‘sense’ of the scents. I bet each one will appeal to your sensibilities.
