There is a degree of restraint in having a shop that only offers white items that intrigues me.
Not sure I could do it, but really enjoy the experience of shopping in such a calm, beautiful atmosphere – and when you are looking for a white ironstone platter or such, it is THE place to go.
Kathi Mundigler runs such a shop on Etsy, All Things White. You might say she & her family have an Etsy empire with 6 shops in total!
I met Kathi back when I had my Etsy shop, before this blog became my all consuming passion.
In fact, I wrote one of my first posts on getting a package from All Things White.
Kathi has become a friend and I wanted to share her with you. I know you will LOVE what she collects & offers in her shop. Besides she is a lovely person to know!
Kathi has graciously offered a $25.00 All Things White gift certificate to one of you! So read on. Get to know Kathi a bit and visit All Things White. Then come on back & leave a comment telling us what you like the best.
Please meet Kathi of All Things White ~ our December Soul Sister.
1. Why do you create what you do?
I create what makes me happy. I love to work with different textiles. If I find an old piece of linen, I can’t let it go to waste. I create something with it – maybe a tree ornament with a few old seed pearls sewn on for texture.
If I see a tattered old quilt, I salvage what I can to create small accent pillows. Vintage fabric can be used to give old furniture a new look by simply re-covering a seat or chair.
I am so fortunate that I have found a way to make a business of doing what makes me happiest. On top of that I work with my husband & daughters which really makes me happy.
2. What inspires you the most?
My family inspires me keeps me going through the not so fun parts of our business. The easy part is finding and buying all sorts of amazing vintage.
The hard part is hauling, scrubbing, repairing, picturing, displaying, posting, and shipping of each item…and that’s just if it’s going online!
If it’s a show then it’s loading an 18 foot moving truck, unloading, displaying, pricing, selling for 16+ hours, and repacking/unpacking everything that’s left.
It’s also inspiring to know I am helping to find a home for all of the treasures I come upon. It feels good to know that a piece is going to a home that will appreciate it, rather than to a landfill.
3. How did you get started as a vintage shop keeper?
I started off as co-owner of a sewing/quilting/fabric shop. I have sewn and quilted for many years.
I have also always collected antiques; mostly old white ironstone. Upon the encouragement of my family, I opened my Etsy shops, Elizabeth Wren and All Things White in 2009. One sells my handmade items and one sells my collection of whites. I also sell with my family under the name 3 Wren Street at flea markets, antique malls, and pop-up shows.
4. Best piece of advice on life & how to live it?
Do what you love. If it starts to become “work” or you get stuck, take a break.
Sometimes you need to walk away from something and come back to it later with a fresh perspective.
I know you will enjoy browsing all the rest Kathi has in her shop. So pop on over and come back to enter to win the $25 gift certificate.
You better hurry ’cause I have my eye on a few things! (Fill in the easy entry form for your chance to win. The winner will be contacted by email next Friday)
Thanks Kathi for letting me share you & for your generous gift to my readers. xx
