I am “a people person”. ( and little dogs )
If I worked in an office, I’d be at the water cooler chatting, a lot.
I’d be wildly productive, but I would be planning the office Christmas party & know the names of all my officemates kids.
But I don’t work in an office, I am a blogger.
Being a blogger, while fantastic, can be a bit lonely.
When a chance to get together with other bloggers comes up I jump.
So here I am at the virtual water cooler, sharing with them, sharing them & sharing, best of all, with you.
Grab a cup & let’s huddle around and chat….
First, let me introduce you to Rachel from Maison de Pax, who invited me on this tour.
Rachel amazed me recently when I approached her at the Haven Blog conference. She turned & there was two month old Juliet on her in a sling.
I love a girl who does not blink at bringing her baby to a blog conference.
Rachel shares her home & heart at Maison Pax. Her style is influenced by her time spent living in Paris ~ also with small children! Rachel’s contagious smile & can do approach is so appealing you will want to visit Maison de Pax again & again.
Thanks for including me Rachel! Let’s get to the tour…
We go ‘Behind the Blog’ today with questions. Here goes:
1. What am I working on?
The long answer is my whole house pretty much all the time.
2. How does my work differ from others in my genre?
I actually considered this for months before starting to blog.
Firstly, let me say, I LOVE my genre ( love that word too! ) We are all striving to create beauty, elevate the everyday and help make our & your homes a sanctuary.
Rather than how I differ, I think I would couch it as, “what do I add” to all the goodness going on already.
I like to think I add a distinctive voice, inspiration that says YOU can do this too and the encouragement to make your home your own no matter the current trend. That I help you put your heart, mind & soul into your home.
3. Why do I create what I do?
If didn’t I would probably burst! Too many ideas to keep inside.
With my home & blog as my canvas, my novel…I get to express my creativity while taking care of my family.
Creating as I do for you & me, enables me to take care of my greatest project, my family. Win win!
4. How does my writing/creative process work?
My writing starts with notes jotted on srap paper. I have numerous srap paper notes.
The notes become an outline. Then I edit. Add my voice, the “personality”. Then I edit. Change the beginning to be more engaging. Then I edit. Add in a question or two. Then I edit. Tie it all together and edit one more time. Publish…then usually another edit.
Creatively, I like to start with what I have on hand and tend to look at things in an “out of the box” sort of way. Re-purposing is one of my favorite ways to be creative. I find working with what is already there to be more interesting.
We once built a house from scratch. While it was an undertaking I enjoyed, I didn’t find it as satisfying as working from what already exists. For me re-working an older home with its design challenges is more rewarding. From constraint comes creativity.
CLEARLY enough about me!
Now I get to introduce you too 3 of my friends & fav bloggers. These 3 creative tour de forces will answer the 4 questions on their blogs next Monday.
Visit them now, sign up for all their goodness & get their answers next week. In alphabetical order we have:
Ann Drake: Ann authors the blog On Sutton Place. I ‘met’ Ann early on in my blogging career. Her blog stopped me in my tracks. It is that good. My friend Ann has helped me tremendously as I navigate the waters of blogging, for that I am so grateful. Let’s hear from Ann…
I’m Ann, lifestyle blogger, DIY decorator and lover of all things home.
From the garden to the kitchen, On Sutton Place is about creating a home you love.
It’s easy and I believe it doesn’t need to break the bank. Join me and we’ll figure it all out together!
Yvonne Pratt: The beauty Yvonne creates at Stone Gable is breathtaking. When I discovered Stone Gable I was hooked. Then I noticed Yvonne had added MSH to her blog roll – NO WAY! Months after she became a dear friend. I present to you Yvonne:
Hi I’m Yvonne, our loud, happy family and friends have lived large in our farmhouse inspired home for the past 18 years.
Because our home is often more like a hotel it has been loved a whole lot (a nice way of saying it gets a bunch of wear and tear).
My husband and I are gutting each room and literally starting from the floorboards up to give the whole house an updated and fresh facelift!
It’s a fun and frantic journey of diy’s, home decor, crafts and so much more!
I love all things home. Come on over to StoneGable, my front door is always open to friends… old and new!
Julie Schock: Lilacs & Longhorns is Julie’s creative place. Starting to blog about the same time, Julie & I have come together as friends, mutual cheerleaders & have created our own blog tour series. In the sea of bloggers so happy we swam into each other! Here is Julie:
Julie here! I am a Northern girl living in the Big D (that’s Dallas) with my ranch-loving corporate man.
I blog about mixing my feminine style with my husband’s masculine tastes, whipping up meals my entire family enjoys,
decorating my home, tackling DIY projects and my crazy life in the Lone Star state.
Thank you for hanging out at the water cooler with me for so long.
Better get back to it!
Have a great week & enjoy visiting my friends,
** Kelly **
