The key being balance.

When you learn which element suits you best and what materials & objects represent each element, you can easily decorate your home in a way that strikes the right balance.

The balance is what makes you feel wonderful in your home & your home look wonderful too.

If you have a knack for decorating, you will find you are already intuitively balancing the elements of feng shui in your designs.

Even if you are a pro decorator, once you learn the materials & objects that 'channel' each element, you can decorate in an even more effective style.   If there were a science to interior design it would be feng shui.

So how did I learn I am 'wood' and where am I learning all this science about decorating with Feng Shui…?

Well, by accident sorta...

I was asked by a friend of a friend to review a new book on, you guessed it, decorating with Feng Shui.  This book is written by Tisha Morris.

Tisha Morris Feng Shui expert http://mysoulfulhome.com

Tisha is a former attorney like me.  She left the law to pursue a career in interior design using the principles of feng shui.  Tisha is an expert in field having written several books on the subject including her prior best seller, Mind, Body Home.

Tisha not only practices these techniques, she teaches them as well.  You can visit Tisha's site, Earth Home for more information on her upcoming certification course & more.

So I am learning all this from Tisha.  She is teaching me the principles of feng shui ~ the science of decorating ~ through her book.

To be honest, I was thinking this might be a little out there for me and, well - I like to think I've got the decorating thing down.

Talk about down, I received the book & couldn't put it down!

Learning that the whole concept of feng shui is based upon achieving a balance, I didn't feel it was too "crystally" for me.

Reading the specific & practical advice Tisha gives for decorating in balance - was eye opening.  Both a reaffirmation of what I have been doing & opportunity to learn some new techniques.

So how to do you find out your element and learn all I have? You can buy Tisha's book,  Decorating with the Five Elements of Feng Shui here.

One lucky reader will win a copy ~ details on entering at the end of the post

When you get your hands on this book, do read from the beginning, but if you must know your element straight away ~ jump to the quiz on page 61.

We four took it over dinner last week.  It is a series of insightful questions with a scoring system.  The results & corresponding personality descriptions were spot on for each of us.

I love Chapter 10, Incorporating the 5 Elements in Interiors, for the the practical information Tisha shares.  There we learn about materials, objects, shapes, finishes & colors and what elements they represent. This makes incorporating all five & striking the right balance a cinch!

For the seasoned decorator to the decor challenged, Tisha's book is a wellspring of information and insight into the human spirit, how it relates to the surroundings and how those surroundings effect the human spirit.  Truly interesting stuff!

If you are reading my blog, chances are you believe that your home is a sanctuary, want it to reflect your individuality and make you feel great.  Tisha's book will help you achieve all that.

Now for the give away...
