Modern Farmhouse Laundry Room Reveal
Welcome to my Modern Farmhouse Laundry Room Reveal!
Nothing jump starts a project like people coming over ...
and joining in a blog tour is just like inviting people over !
So thank you to Annie of
for the invitation and, hence, the jump start on my laundry room.
With soooo much renovation and restoration going on inside the house over these past 3 years, I got the laundry room to a functioning level and kinda left it at that.
I stopped short of the fun part actually.
So this past week I have been working like a decorator with a deadline on the fun stuff. The finishing touches, styling and the tweaks that would take the space from simply functioning to functioning with flair.
Come on in! I am as ready as I will ever be to have people visit my laundry room.
I hope you like what you see ...
My laundry room is in the barn about 150 feet or so from my kitchen doors. You can visit my kitchen
.
The weather is not an issue usually as we live in Southern California. Carrying clothes across the lawn is worth freeing up space inside that would have had to house the washer & dryer.
It also gave me the opportunity to have a more spacious area for laundry than if it was inside our 1886 Victorian.
The rest of the first floor of the barn is a large family room that the girls use for sleep overs and such, so I included a microwave & small fridge in the laundry room for popcorn popping and snacks.
The laundry room and bathroom were carved out of one large room. The
before
of the barn is a bit shocking.
This is a pretty tour so I think I shall leave the befores for another day.
Many of the elements I used inside the house appear in the laundry room:
a limited color palette of white, grey, black & pops of gold
planked ceiling
sparkly chandelier
marble countertops
even a bit of wallpaper slipped into a vintage frame.
I would not have had marble countertops in the laundry room unless we had suffered through the kitchen marble being fabricated incorrectly. With the seam in the wrong place, the first kitchen marble had to be ripped out. ( that was a day... )
To make lemonade out of a lemon of a situation, I decided the laundry room would get the ill cut marble.
The gold back splash tile is peel and stick metal tile from Aspect Tile. Easy to install and I love the glam of it. See the tile details HERE.
I have very little open shelving in my house, so I had a blast styling the shelves in the laundry room.
I had made a mood board post for the laundry room when we first moved into the house. You can see that post
.
Looking back now, I stayed pretty close to my initial plan.
The plan included, without a doubt the Alape sink from Rejuvenation Hardware. I love the vintage industrial look of it. See the sink details
.
Funny thing was I bought a wall mounted faucet and it sat in the box next to the sink for months & months until we got to the laundry room (
the house was under MAJOR renovation/restoration so inside had to come first
).
When the faucet and sink were about to be installed, I realized the faucet jutted out over the edge of the sink and would pour all the water onto the floor.
Not good!
Hmmm...ok, let's make a box for the sink to be mounted on and then I will get a ledge too.
Another piece of scrap marble came in handy!
Another element of my laundry room that has the same vintage industrial vibe as the sink is my laundry cart from Steele Canvas.
I love Steele Canvas, the products & the Massachusetts company. You can learn more about Steele Canvas in this post
.
The wallpaper that I added to this large vintage frame was left over from a project I did inside.
It is a terrific way to make a big statement on a wall without a big commitment or a lot of money. You can have a look at that project in this post
This dresser is the "pick up station". The idea goes that each person in my family has a drawer. Their clothes will be folded and put in that drawer to be picked up by the owner at regular intervals.
This is a great idea in theory, but the regular intervals aren't so regular and the drawers are only so big. But I am going to keep trying ~ the idea may catch on someday!
Forever an optimist!
Hope you enjoyed my laundry room tour. I certainly enjoyed having you over. If you are new to my blog, let me tell you a few things about what I am up to ...
