Moss Mountain Farm - Tour Part I

There is just so much to share, we''ll  pace ourselves.

Let's have Moss Mountain Farm reveal itself slowly & charmingly like a southern drawl.

Let's poke around the outside today, then head inside after we cover all 600+ acres.  Only kidding not all 600+ acres, just around the house today.

The house is set on land that was part of the Louisiana Purchase and which hugs the bank of the Arkansas River.

American Greek Rival in style, P. Allen Smith's home is only ten years old, but the character it exudes more than hints at an age 10x that or more.

Shortly after Arkansas was declared a state in 1836, the property was purchase by the Moss family.  They owned & occupied the land from 1840s to the 1970s.

The land had never been commercially farmed, so was in prime organic condition for Allen's farm to fork passion.

The house itself is stately, impeccably appointed and ever so tastefully decorated.  The architecture, design & decor pay homage to the history, the land and the values held here.

Moreover, the home is a reflection of the lifestyle enjoyed at the farm.  To me that is what a home should be ~ an extension of the owners or, better put for a home like this, the stewards.

Statutes of handsome farm dogs greet each visitor.  You can almost see their tails wagging!

The porch with its jauntily painted furniture hosted the band in the evenings during our visit and is the gateway to the stunning interior.

Here is a peek into the entry.  We'll go inside soon, I promise.

I loved seeing that Allen likes to punctuate his decor with vibrant green apples as I do.  I think I need a few more bushels! See my green apples HERE.

Here is a view from the inside out.  Can you guess where I took this photo?

From behind... yup, from behind a screen on the screened sleeping porch.  Can't wait to show you that room.  My favorite in the house.

Outside or in, every turn, vista, garden or room resonates with purpose, function and beauty.
