Porch Decor - a mood board

porch-decor-mood-board-inspiration.jpg

I have always wanted a front porch.

We once had a tiny one - big enough for one chair, me & a magazine.

Soon - how soon I am not exactly sure - we will have a porch built for more than one.

Perusing bHome for inspiration, I came upon a porch round up by Domino.

And, inspiration I got!

This porch is configured almost just like mine.

Like mine will  be.

It is white with black, needs something to block the neighbors house, calls out for a comfy sofa, 2 chairs & a coffee table.

Rifting off this image, I created a mood board for my soon to be front porch.  Wanna see what I picked?...

Well, wait...want to see the before first?

Of course you do, what's an after, or even a mood board, without a before…?  A place without a past.  We all have a past…well that's another story huh?

Back to the porch… I present my porch BEFORE!

As I mentioned, the house will be white with black trim to tone down the whimsy of the gingerbread & compliment the white garden I have been planing.

My porch AFTER will require more than paint, though as you can see.

Here is what I am thinking...

A deep comfy sofa.

If you can lust over outdoor furniture, I am doing just that over the 87" luxe Provence sofa from Restoration Hardware.

It will fit perfectly and allow for a plant or side table on either end.

I went there yesterday & looked at all the finishes & fabrics. I picked the brown all weather wicker with the black textured canvas Sunbrella.

The brown has tones of black in it.  This will work beautifully with the brown & black flecked roof & black trim paint.  Need to work in the brown roof as it is in good shape, so NOT replacing it.  Add brown wicker instead!

This sofa is a splurge even with the sale going on now.  Hoping as the leaves fall the price will too and I can swoop in & pick it up.  Wish me luck & if you see RH having a end end end of the season outdoor furniture sale tell me please!

Now, I will be using a round glass coffee table from Pier one that I have for something like 20 years, an end table I picked up from the side of the road & a giant basket from a yard sale for a tall plant.

These are details you need to get the mood - but get real, I am rationalizing the sofa!

I know you can appreciate the thrifty decor & furniture lust, so let's move on and talk chairs.

You know I LOVE chairs, so I have plenty I picked up here & there that might work.  But since this is a mood board, thought these from Wayfair would be so much better!  See the white, black & brown!

Can you picture it?

The sofa, piled with pillows made from grain sacks with black stripes, a few burlap ones tossed on too.

The round glass & metal coffee table with these chairs flanking it.

A tall plant or small tree in my gray toned basket.  A side table painted black with a table lamp for reading.

You with me…?

Lighting - yes, so very important.  Overhead as well as table top and a lantern by the door.

Want to see the BEFORE by the door…?

Oh boy….I have ideas for there as well - but let's focus on the lighting...

What do you think of these in powder coated black?  The lantern comes in an overhead version as well!

This is the Tradd Street from Carolina Lanterns…. LOVE them!

And under it all to pull the mood together a sisal rug.

I really like the tones & texture of this one from Joss & Main.

I like my sisals without a border so you see the rug but it doesn't compete for attention.  I think colored borders do that.  I want texture & subtle definition from the rug so this one is perfect.

Well, I am certainly in the mood to get started on my porch & all the rest.  Hope you like what I have picked.

Open to any suggestions!
