Thanksgiving Floral Centerpiece Ideas

I love Thanksgiving ...

The spirit of gratefulness, the inclusiveness and the fact that it kicks off the holiday season, makes this day extra special in my mind.  The food too ranks high and of course, the opportunity to set a beautiful table.

Whether you are hosting a gathering involving extra tables & chairs or tucking into a Cornish game hen for one your table should be lovely.  

Many things come together to create a beautiful table.  One very vital item for me is a centerpiece(s) of fresh flowers.

I have two ideas to share with you today on creating a beautiful Thanksgiving floral centerpiece.  

Thanksgiving Floral Centerpiece Ideas

• A low, long arrangement that splays out from the sides.

• A cluster of smaller arrangements that work together and can be separated.

My first idea, the low, long centerpiece is best suited for a large table.  I created such a centerpiece for the November tutorial included in my book.

November's arrangement was not planned to include Cymbidium orchids, but a happy circumstance led me to use them as I describe in the book.  What a fabulous, strong, long lasting flower and the color is perfect for fall.

If you have never used these russet hued orchids in an arrangement, I encourage you to do so!

A centerpiece that will remain on the table during a feast like Thanksgiving needs to be low enough so that when seated people can see each other over it.  My low, long design in a trough style wooden planter is the perfect height.

As the flower stems of the center flowers in a low centerpiece need to be short, use foam to anchor the flowers just where you want them. 

To create the "splay on each side, cut the stems longer than the center flowers and push into the foam almost completely horizontally.  

My second, and favorite, way to create a Thanksgiving floral centerpiece that can actually stay on the table during the meal is to create a cluster of individual arrangements that work together as a whole, then that can be separated when the meal begins.
