What is better than a flag in the summer time?
A vintage looking flag in the summertime, of course!
If you agree, grab a bunch of flags from your local cheap-o store.
Choose cotton or at least cotton blend. Not those nylon ones - there is no chance of going vintage-esque with those.
If you prefer your flags to look like they might have actually been around since Betsy Ross, then follow my quick & simple tutorial.
Making Tea Stained Flags
- Brew up some black tea in a large shallow pan. Fill half way with hot tap water & add 4 tea bags. That is about one tea bag per two cups of water. Let steep about 10 minutes & remove bags
- Lay in your flags. Crossing them over is fine to have them fit
- Let them sit over night. ( the sitting doesn't count in your ten minutes ! )
In the morning you will have tea stained vintage looking flags to use every and anywhere.
Only takes a minute or two to stick the flags in vases, container pots outside or hang vertically here & there.
In 10 minutes or less of active DIY'ing & sticking you have vintage patriotic decor tucked in all over your house.
Betsy would be flattered!
