How to Make a House a Home with Better Homes & Gardens
There are houses - plenty of them.
Then there are homes - not nearly as many of those.
A house is simply walls, a roof & some stuff.
A home is a special place that feeds your soul.
Any house can become a home with some care, consideration and personalization.
We should all live in a 'home', not just a house.
A home that is our very own sanctuary filled with beauty.
Today I am sharing some personal big news & tips on turning a house into a home.
First for my news, I am so thrilled to share that I have been chosen to be a member of the Better Homes & Gardens BHG Live Better Blogger Network!
As such Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart has provided me with the products to review & share with you, as well as provided me compensation for doing so.
That being said, I would only share truly good stuff with you!
Me being a Better Homes & Gardens BHG Live Better blogger is good news for you too. I will be sharing this iconic lifestyle brand and Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart products with you every month in all sorts of ways.
Starting today, I will be introducing you to products designed by Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart that will instantly add 'home' to your decor.
How to Make a House a Home
Now onto the tips...
Let's begin in the entry, as this is the gateway to your home.
The look of your entry sets the stage for what is to come in color, style and vibe throughout the other rooms.
The entry is your home's first impression. Make it a good one!
You can introduce a sense of 'home' in your entry in these ways:
- declutter - such as no out of season clothing & shoes;
- add a place to sit, even if it is just a small chair or stool;
- incorporate a lamp;
- use pillows to soften the hard surfaces found in an entry;
- create a vignette to greet you;
- add a personal touch;
- tuck in a plant or a vase of flowers.
I decorated my entry with beautiful items from the Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart line of home decor and I am loving it!
My entry feels fresh, inviting and sets the tone for the home I have created.
Let's have a look at each new piece.
While I LOVE every item, I think my favorite is the Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart studded drum lamp shade.
Created in a nubby neutral with antique brass nail heads on the top & bottom, this lampshade has style to spare.
This shade has freshened up my entry so much and at $13.41 ~ what a steal! Have a closer look HERE.
Let's have a look at the vignette I created with the Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart gray wash wooden tray as the foundation piece. See the tray HERE.
This open handled tray is made of real wood, stained to a gorgeous weathered finish.
The tray corrals the clean lined Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart gold metal & glass lantern and a few vintage pieces beautifully.
I love the juxtaposition of the simple lined lantern with my books & tassel. See the $16.94 lantern HERE.
On the wall behind the vignette you can see the Better Homes & Garden at Walmart gallery frame in a rustic wood finish.
This frame is the perfect compliment to the gray wash tray.
I slid in a vintage postcard that I picked up while in Paris this summer into the frame. So each time I pass through my entry I am reminded of our wonderful trip.
The frame is so versatile in color & size ( 5" x 7" ) that I can change the image for the seasons. See the $5.99 frame HERE.
What is a house without pillows? Certainly not a home in my book!
I ADORE buffalo check pillows. A cozy pattern made modern when rendered in charcoal grey & off-white. These 18" x 18" zippered covers with insert are only $10.00 each. See the pillows HERE.
These Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart pillows are the perfect size for my deacon's bench. I got a fourth as I like to take a pillow out to the front porch with me when I read out there. This one is tucked inside the market tote.
I might also take along the ultra soft oversized gray throw when I head out to porch. For now it is draped over the bench, adding the right amount of softness to the otherwise hard surfaces of an entry.
See the ridiculously well priced $8.88 gray throw HERE.
The only thing that makes a pillow even better is some eyelash trim.
This Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart 14" x 20" buffalo check pillow with off-white eyelash trim is darling. At $12.99 it is an affordable luxury. Have a closer look HERE.
