Laundry Room Mood Board

It is kinda weird I know, but I have been having dreams about my laundry room.

Well, not my current laundry room  - a laundry room - my dream laundry room.

Have a look at my current 'laundry room'.  I think you will agree it is a nightmare!

Other people might dream of exotic trips or showing up to class nude or unprepared or worse yet, nude & unprepared.

I dream of houses, furniture and lately, this fantasy laundry room.

Well friends, it will be fantasy no more - construction has begun and items have been ordered.

Having the washer & dryer located out in the barn has made doing laundry a bit of a challenge.

You see, until last weekend the barn has been filled with stuff!  I climbed over piles of wood, stored furniture and was freaked out by a possum waddling by the dryer one night all in the name of clean clothes.

Don't you agree the time has come to stop dreaming & start building?

Can I share my dreamy vision with you?

First the machinery - the washer & dryer.

Miele washing machine http://mysoulfulhome.com

I LOVE my set from Miele.  Compact, powerful and hardworking.  I had Miele's in my last house too.  Listen to our Podcast chat on Laundry Room 101 to hear why these machines rock. Click HERE to listen.

The sink I have pinned & pinned and pinned again will be affixed to one end of the rectangle shaped room.

Tell me what you think.  I love it - a bit janitor's closet in the best retro sort of way.  For a sink with that much style at $250 - perfect!

Here it is in action, The Alape sink from Rejuvenation Hardware.

I'll need a wall mount faucet.  Decided on chrome for the barn so going that route in the laundry room.  This set from Kingston Brass works well with the farmhouse vibe and the sink.  Again, the price is right at under $100.  Have a look HERE.

A long piece of gray swirly marble was left behind so I am going to use that as the counter.  It will run almost end to end over go right over the washer & dryer as they are counter height.

It is there that I will do the folding and the re-uniting of separated socks.

Here is the really dreamy part.  Ok, the 'in your wildest dreams' part of my laundry room dream.

Ready? ... I will paint & repurpose a tall vintage dresser into a "pick up station".  No, not a hot spot for those separated socks to find a new mate - a "laundry pick up station". Each drawer of the dresser will have an initial stenciled on it for the members of my crew.

Here is where the dream turns to fantasy, my family would regularly and happily visit the darling & clever laundry pick up station to retrieve their clean clothes.  Then gladly transport the clean clothes inside and into their drawers.

The stuff of almost unimaginable dreams I know...

Chances are those painted drawers with the stenciled letters will be over flowing, but I am going to try to live the dream!

For the inevitable over flow and for the dirty stuff there will be these fabulous bins.

Open shelving will be hung with yet to be found vintage brackets.

The floor, oh the floor, will be this gorgeous and woody ceramic tile from Thomas Ave Ceramics.

I won't have cabinets on either side of the washing machine & dryer.  I will use a rod & whip up some inexpensive drop cloth curtains to shield the supplies from view, soften the look and add a need bit of texture to the room.
