How to Decorate with a Pop of Color ~ RED
My house is decidedly neutral these days.
If you listen to my podcast, Decorating Tips & Tricks, you know that Yvonne, Anita and I often joke about how I was 'autumnal' not Tuscan when the golds, reds & greens were so popular.
Whatever you call it, I used to have lots more color in my decor.
I don't miss a riot of color. I am very happy with my peaceful, calm palette. It suits my house & my frame of mind these days.
What is an unexpected benefit to neutral decor is the ability to add in a pop of color, any color, at the drop of a hat.
With a neutral foundation you can go for a pop of yellow, pink, green.... or even red.
Because I do enjoy adding a splash of color now and again, I was thrilled when Jennifer of Town & Country Living invited me to participate in her vibrant tour.
The tour is called ~ the Summer Colors Tour. For my color, I chose RED! A bit of a throwback color for me and one that makes me smile.
I decorated my porch with pops of red as I did at Christmas time. You can see that post HERE.
Every time I step up on the porch or open the door, I am greeted with the saturated hues of red flowers, fruit, pillows & throws.
As I mentioned it is very simple to add a pop of color to any room, especially a porch. Below I share are my tips on doing just that.
Thanks to Jennifer for including me and be sure visit her and all the other bloggers on the tour. The links are at the end of my post.
When I want to add a pop of color for a season, holiday, for fun...or for a blog tour, I first shop my house. Undoubtedly, I will have some thing in the color I want to feature. I gather all those items up and lay them out on my dining room table.
I will also raid my stash of fabric, pillow covers and throws in search of the color du jour. I found the red felt I laid over the back of the wicker sofa in my fabric scraps bag and the bright red wool shawl in a Christmas bin. ( lucky me it was in the second bin I checked!).
Anytime of year, but especially summertime it is easy to augment your pop of color from the farmer's market or grocery store.
I love to add bowls of fruit or even display just one perfect fruit or veggie on a little pedestal. I did both here with a dish of cherry tomatoes and a single strawberry of a tiny pedestal.
If my fabric stash doesn't hold the right color, I will invest a few dollars in a yard or two of fabric.
This fabric can be used as a runner, tucked into a basket, as filler for a plant in a container or draped over a piece of furniture. I did that on my porch with 3 yards from Joanne's. Super sale with bonus coupon ~ cheap!
Lastly, if I think I need a bit more pop I will pick a piece of decor and spray paint it my color of choice. Spray paint is inexpensive, easy and transformative. Easy to do and easy to undo!
