DIY Lampshade - trash to treasure
I bought a darling trash basket somewhere along the way...It never was used. Darling as it was ~ it was small & the holes in it big…crumbled paper holder at best.I wanted an interesting lampshade for the girls bathroom ~ so the trash basket get a second look.Turned it over drilled a hole. The washer are to steady it & the ball, the lamp base finial.Roughed it up vintage style with some sand paper. Plopped it on the base for a "before" shot.Spray painted the base of the lamp blackThen cut & tore scraps of ecru nubby cotton. I love how thick cotton frays. My strips were about 1/2 inch wide and 5 inches long. I snipped a bit and then pulled the fabric apart by hand to achieve the nice fray.I had to make lots of strips but it really took no time at all. All the while the base was drying. After making a pile of strips I tied them though the wire loops on top and bottom.About 20 minutes later my trash basket looked like this...What do you think? With the banner overlay it kinda looks like a party hat. Take off the DIY & put 2015 and it might come in handy on New Year's Eve! But you know that is just on the picture!** Kelly **p.s. - I am using an Edison style bulb…you know the kind with the filament. LOVE those bulbs!
