DIY Lampshade - trash to treasure

I bought a darling trash basket somewhere along the way...DIY Lampshade-www.mysoulfulhome.comIt never was used.  Darling as it was ~ it was small & the holes in it big…crumbled paper holder at best.I wanted an interesting lampshade for the girls bathroom ~  so the trash basket get a second look.DIY lampshade-www.mysoulfulhome.comTurned it over drilled a hole. The washer are to steady it & the ball, the lamp base finial.Roughed it up vintage style with some sand paper. Plopped it on the base for a "before" shot.DIY Lampshade - www.mysoulfulhome.comSpray painted the base of the lamp blackThen cut & tore scraps of ecru nubby cotton. I love how thick cotton frays.DIY Lampshade - www.mysoulfulhome.comMy strips were about 1/2 inch wide and 5 inches long.  I snipped a bit and then pulled the fabric apart by hand to achieve the nice fray.DIY Lampshade-www.mysoulfulhome.comI had to make lots of strips but it really took no time at all.  All the while the base was drying.After making a pile of strips I tied them though the wire loops on top and bottom.DIY Lampshade - www.mysoulfulhome.comAbout 20 minutes later my trash basket looked like this...DIY Lampshade-www.mysoulfulhome.comWhat do you think?DIY Lampshade-www.mysoulfulhome.comWith the banner overlay it kinda looks like a party hat.  Take off the DIY & put 2015 and it might come in handy on New Year's Eve!  But you know that is just on the picture!** Kelly **p.s. - I am using an Edison style bulb…you know the kind with the filament. LOVE those bulbs!
